MY STORY

Gaël Le Thellec_edited.jpg

Having graduated from the Boulle school in 2007 in wood sculpture, I continued my training by working for my ornamental sculpture teacher.

Then, I spent 6 years in a luxury decor workshop working for the biggest Parisian brands.

I creating sculptures in composite materials, using multiple manufacturing techniques.

In 2016 I opened Gawood, a workshop with two facets of the same passion: wood, where I both imagine and create creations, responding to orders from designers and individuals.

At the same time, I am developing a unique process in France for manufacturing hollow wooden surfboards without resin, which is normally omnipresent in classic surfboard constructions.

In 2018 I opened my workshop to the public and offered wokshops where everyone can come and make their own custom wooden board in 5 days.

MY VALUES

Passionate about nature and its details, I am committed to creating and making unique objects that will stand the test of time and with the least possible ecological impact. Not limiting myself to one mode of expression, I can just as easily one day do wood sculpture, like modeling and the next week wooden surfboards. Use and continue to learn the know-how of other craftsmen, glasswork, goldsmithing.

My motivation as a craftsman is to continue to perpetuate ancestral gestures and techniques but also to mix codes, to push the limits; mine as well as those of the material that I cherish.

To teach, to share my know-how and my ideas to do my part in the challenges facing humanity.
